The Project
My capstone project, called “Floating Wetlands” , sought to improve an
experimental design (shown left) of a device that can filter nitrogen
pollutants out of water bodies through a natural bacterial process. As
this technology is highly innovative and subject to strict IP
agreements, I cannot disclose direct engineering material regarding the
project or show our design. However, I can share what my tasks on the
team involved and how the overall project will function. As part of the
team, I:
-
Reviewed design criteria from our client and translated their
customer needs into engineering requirements
-
Created a bill of materials and financial model for our design.
- Modeled major components and systems in Solidworks.
-
Coordinated with our client to resolve supply and financial issues.
-
Got hands on with the build, and assembled the final design with 3D
printed parts, lumber, and biological medium.
- Performed fluid flow calculations.
-
Worked with five other team members to coordinate tasks and
responsibilities.
-
Presented engineering work to our client and ensured that our
progress was meeting their deliverables.
